It's PaRtY Time!

Tis the season, y'all.

My favorite tradition with my friends is the cookie exchange I host each year.  The list of invitees has changed very little over the last ten years.  I've tried to keep it as just a small group of friends because it just doesn't work well with large groups.
Some years we wear PJ's.  Some years we have a contest for the ugliest Christmas sweater.  Either way, it's a fun way to make an entrance.

Part of our tradition is to have Rum Punch.  It is delicious.  These girls love their punch!
We usually play a game.  In the past we've played Poker Keno and we've played Apples to Apples.  You'd be surprised how much fun Apples to Apples can be after some drinks.

No matter what the routine, we always end with the cookie exchange.  The cookie exchange is the reason that families are happy to send momma to my house.

Here's how it is done:

  • Have all of the participants bring 4 Dozen cookies (all the same kind) and a cookie tray.  If you are the hostess, be sure to have some Press & Seal handy for those trays!
  • You'll have to do a little math here.  You should have 48 cookies per tray.  You'll need to figure out how many cookies each participant can take from each tray.  It's called division.  You did it in fifth grade and you can do it again.
  • Each participant takes their empty tray around to each cookie platter and takes the selected number of cookies at each stop.

It is simple.
It is fun.
It's a free pass for a girls night out.
And you get a whole tray of different cookies to take home to your family.

That's what I made last year.
Just in case you are wondering, I do share the Rum Punch Recipe.  Mrs. Albright put it in her post a while ago.  If you missed it, here it is again.

Priss' Rum Punch
5 cups water
1 quart rum
1 bottle Tom Collins mix
1 jar maraschino cherries, juice and all
1 pink lemonade concentrate
1/2 yellow lemonade concentrate.
Freeze at least 24 hours.
Enjoy, but don't drive.

If you've never been to a cookie exchange, maybe it's time for you to host one.
What is your favorite cookie?

~ Mrs. Priss ~
