MckLinky Monday: Ringing in the New Year

Happy 2011 Everyone!

We RHOK'ers hope that you have enjoyed your holidays and are prepared for the blessings that 2011 will bring.

For today's MckLinky, I must go with the obvious question.  It just seemed wrong not to.  Because we aren't exciting people, this may be my most entertaining post yet.  Do you hear the sarcasm?

Today we want to know:

Doc and I have spent most of our New Year's Eve celebrations at home.  Before kids we would usually head out, but it was never as exciting as we thought it would be.  We figured out a while back that we really just like to hang out at home and let all of the crazies out there do their thing.

Over the last few years, we've managed to wrangle one of our favorite kid-free couples into traveling to our house to hang with us.  It is now becoming a bit of a tradition for us to beg my high school friends Misti and Greg to spend the weekend here with us and our kiddos.
This year we branched out and talked some local friends in to bringing their kids and staying the night.  It was fantastic!  Six adults and four kids - it was our own little mini party.
The kids toasted in the New Year with fancy glasses and sparkling grape juice at 10 then they went to bed.
Notice, I didn't say they went to sleep.
The grown ups were too busy playing card games to notice when midnight had come and gone.  Once we figured out the time, we enjoyed our glass of champagne and finished up our card game.
Guess who won?
Not that she rubbed it in or anything.
That's okay.  I very quietly and methodically kicked her rear on round two.

On New Year's Day we had black eyed peas for lunch because that's what you're supposed to do.  My friend Caci is not from the South and told all of us our tradition of eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Day was a silly, Southern thing.  Pshaw! I looked it up and the tradition dates back to the Jewish New Year and the Babylonian Talmud.  So there.  Eat your black-eyed peas and enjoy some symbolic prosperity for the New Year!

Do you stay up until midnight?

Do you have any New Year's Eve or New Year's Day traditions?
Did you make a list of resolutions?
Did you eat black-eyed peas?

Post it and link up with The RHOK today.
