In Your Neck of the Woods - PINK

As I was lying on the couch this morning recuperating from my weekend, I was wondering what to post for this weeks' In Your Neck of the Woods. Then it came to me. Don't you love when a blog post just comes to mind and makes sense?!

In our community Tuesday (today), you will see a flood of pink. The pink will be worn in honor of what would have been the 16th birthday of a very special girl who lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis on June 13, 2008 at the age of 12~

My family and I have had the honor of getting to know Haley's mom, dad and sister over the summer. They are strong, precious, thoughtful, but most of all, they are fighters ~ just like Haley was. When Haley passed, they didn't just give up, they have continued to fight for a cure. They have done many fundraisers (5K's, Bunco for a Cure, etc.) and have just this year started the Haley Palmer Foundation which will provide blessings for other children who suffer with life-threatening diseases.

I had the privilege of taking Jenn & Rich's youngest daughter's picture a couple of weeks ago. She is an amazing, beautiful girl. She does, and will continue to do, great things in life. She truly lives by her sister's motto -
"Footprints in history are not made sitting down."

Our community has loved and supported this family through Haley's battle and the three years since. You will see bumper/window stickers on vehicles all over town that say, "Haley ~ Forever Our Hero." Every year on her birthday the town turns pink. So today, if you see pink, even if you're not in our community, would you please think of this precious family? And, if you'd really like to show your support -

 Celebrating her 14th birthday.

One of two statues of Haley in our community.
