Blessed by the Women in my Family

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a little getaway girls' trip with the women in my family. My mom, my auntie, my sisters-in-law, and I  headed to Branson, MO.  Our close family friend owns a gorgeous vacation home at Branson Creek and allows us to stay there when it isn't being used. It's the perfect getaway!

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip, even the drive to and from (I normally don't like to be in a car for very long). We had tons of great laughs and got to just enjoy each other without kids nipping at our heels or interrupting our conversations. We did lots of eating and lots of shopping while we were there.

A lot of younger families typically go to Branson to go to Silver Dollar City. And, while Silver Dollar City is great fun, it isn't the only fun to be had there. There are outlet malls, shops and tons of shows to see as well. We chose to shop at Branson Landing & Tanger Outlet Mall, and see a show on our trip. My mom splurged and took us all to see the show Legends In Concert. We got to see impersonators of Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, The Blues Brothers, Ray Charles and Elvis. They all did a phenomenal job. Elvis was really good and really funny. He also was really tiny. We were sitting second row, front and center. He came down in the audience and was kissing the ladies right in front of us. My mom told me to lean forward and get a kiss. I told her I'm pretty sure I've given birth to bigger than him. Ha!

I wish all women were blessed with good relationships with the women in their families. I'm thankful my mom insists on us taking these little getaways together from time-to-time. It's hard to coordinate and harder still for some of us to leave our little ones at home without us, but it is really good for dads to get that alone time with the kids for bonding. But, do you know what else? It's good for them to realize how much we, as moms, do to maintain a family and a household.

I'd love to hear about the relationships you have with the women in your family and how you nurture those relationships. If you don't have close relationships, why do you think that is? I've love to hear what you have to say.
